Hong Kong

09/05/2015

A sourdough lover, I returned once more for my bread fix at the best sourdough bakery (imo) in town this final morning of the trip. Not only do they do their sourdoughs in the authentic fashion, they offer such an uncommonly wide range of sourdoughs from the classics in different types and mix of flours to sweet and savoury selections with the balanced level of flavour where the taste of each ingredient is prominent yet not overpowering. Think green tea/orange peel & fig, parmesan, chocolate cranberry, nuts & currants, olives, red wine longan/lychee, apple with molasses, black tea & mango, spinach & cheese... just to name a few. My pick for today: their 90% rye sourdough, a weekend special. As stoked as I felt days before coming back to Hong Kong, I've been gradually feeling more heavy as I get nearer to my departure flight. It's not the kind of reluctance to go home at the end of a holiday but the sadness of having to leave home. The comforting thought is that we're nothing more than a ticket apart and I can always come home to this city, just like how I spontaneously flew back this trip cause I missed it so much.

So we planned to meet up to do our own stuff (books to read, cards to write, journals to jot). Always thankful for friends whom I'm able to be comfortably silent with so we can always still hang even if we need some quiet time respectively or when we need to get down to get some stuff done individually. Just thought we'd settle down at any coffee house and it was a plus to have chanced upon a bakery with two especially dainty seats neatly cornered off from the rest of the store, perfect to house us for the next couple of hours. Walked through Victoria Park with more good talks before parting, all so fine. For tonight, I went to watch the latest Hong Kong movie in the cinema myself though it's really not my genre but simply because you can only get its all original version in Cantonese over here. Watching HK productions in the theatres back in Singapore is always lacking with the dubbing and censoring especially when I re-watch them in the original form and get to compare. That's why I always try to catch one over here if I've the time to do so just for a only-in-HK experience.

Funky Poke bowls in the day with cool kid friend and modern Chinese comfort cuisine at night with the traditional yet young at heart aunt. Just realized how nicely paired they were. In between was more roaming around and pausing to continue reading on the copy of this month's Reader's Digest I carried in my bag. Yes it's my favourite magazine I'm boring like that.

In to Disneyland on my own this late afternoon to get some items for friends and myself and also to watch the new night parade and of course the fireworks. Had a bit of time to spare before the showtime so I managed to ride on my favourite flying saucer too woo~ So how's the night parade? Lightning McQueen drove right past me; right in front of my eyes, with nothing in between us. 'nuff said. Watch the moment on my Instagram. #fangirl

Fun 長洲 Cheung Chau. While the family has a place there and I frequent the island, it's always by-passing the main touristy streets, directly to the route home for some cosy gathering or homely cookout. Today was joining in the weekend buzz and visitors for a change. Ferried in early to play around, doing the must-dos and must-eat with Anna and wrapping the day with seafood by the pier all together with the dearest aunt and cousin through sunset till into the night

Met another friend and got ourselves merrily carried away in eslite @ Hysan this afternoon after randomly finding out that we both love browsing at the 3-levels huge bookstore while chit chatting over flatbreads an hour before that. Then it was a date with Karen again, doing what we do best - hopping around, popping in to any store we fancy, sitting down wherever that's pretty and comfy to talk eat laugh and then continue on. Among which we checked out Le French GourMAY 2015 as part of this year's Le French May, little treasure hunt in a porcelain store where I picked a porcelain ball and had our silly faces drawn just like when we did at another fair last spring over here yippee.
